Today’s question is: Are you an optomist or a pessimist?
Did you know that you can change?
Studies show us that Pessimists predict the future with greater clarity. In this, they are realists who take the facts as they are and draw a conclusion that is close to what really happens. Unfortunately, the pessimist is unhappy even when they are right.
The Optomists see the world through rose colored goggles. They make up happy stories that keep them happy, even as their forecasts miss the mark more often than not.
As one of our listeners pointed out, the ideal situation is to plan as a pessimist, while living as an optomist. The best of both worlds.
That being said, did you know that you can choose which one you want to be?
If you are a pessimist at heart, you taught yourself to become that way based on the stories you developed about yourself. This week we will talk more about “your story”.
The key point is to understand that if you change the way you piece together the unified story of your history, (there is no need to change the events of the past), you change the person you are today.
All people are built upon the stories we tell ourselves, and in turn the stories we tell others.
If we say we are “not good at languages” that becomes the story of who we are.
If we say that we have “always been lucky”, then luck continues to flow into our lives.
So if you tell a story that you don’t like to hear.
You can write your own destiny. Start by rewriting your own past. Select the memories that support the vision of your future.
It is not a lie. It is the cherry-picked version of you.
(You already cherry pick the events of your life that you share with others, just pick better subjects this time!)
